IONITY Charlestown - Ireland's largest, fastest, charging hub

IONITY Charlestown, Dublin 11 is now officially Ireland's largest, highest power, public charging hub. Last week we had the opportunity to meet with M&M Contractors, IONITY, Charlestown Shopping Centre, ZEVI, & others, to check out the hub as commissioning of the units began.

Location map

It's conveniently located less than 2km from the M50 (whichever direction you're travelling) near Charlestown Shopping Centre, with both McDonald's & KFC only 100m away too.

The hub comprises 12 350kW CCS units, each supporting multiple methods of use:

Pricing currently ranges from €0.42/kWh (with an IONITY Passport Power subscription) to €0.70/kWh (whether using IONITY app without a subscription, contactless payment, or website). Speaking of fees, we were advised on the day that parking while charging is free, though parking fees & clamping are otherwise active in the area.

Charger

Each unit's halo light provides both illumination, & also indicates whether that unit is actually currently in use - changing from white to purple when a vehicle is being charged.

Another innovation present is the compact substation located across the road from the hub. This provides a number of advantages over the traditional substation, & should accelerate future installations, something which we'll be hearing more about in the coming months.

As always, we'll keep you up to date on future installations on Infrastructure Updates, though for now be sure to check IONITY Charlestown out if you're in the area.
