Nissan testing Quantum technology for next-generation Leaf

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – 1st April 2014 The Nissan LEAF continues to make automotive history. New quantum slipstream technology to triple range on next-generation Leaf, with no range impact on freeway driving.

Nissan announced this morning that the next-generation All Electric Nissan Leaf will incorporate their new Quantum SlipStream™ Technology. This revolutionary new technology utilises quantum entanglement to effectively teleport fast-moving air from the front of the vehicle to the back. This means that wind resistance is reduced significantly.

Drivers have previously criticised Nissan’s range claims as being unrealistic, due to the fact that they are only achievable in low-speed city traffic. Traditionally on a freeway at higher speeds, the drag introduced by air passing over the vehicle greatly impacts the range. With this new technology, the effect of wind resistance is decreased ten-fold, meaning that at a speed of 100km/h, the drag is the same as at just 10km/h. This means that the efficiency of the vehicle is increased by an order of magnitude, resulting in a doubling of the effective range produced per KWH of energy used.

In addition to this, they announced that the new Leaf will include a 36kwh battery, which is 1.5 times larger than the current model’s 24kwh unit.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Nissan representative Joe King from their marketing department in Nashville was quoted as saying;

“This new technology, utilising the latest research in automative, computing and quantum research will revolutionise the next generation in vehicle technology. This will be available in the next generation Nissan Leaf and we are also heavily invested in porting this feature across our product range to improve the efficiency of our existing vehicles.”
