The Kia Niro (launched last year as a non-rechargeable hybrid) is now available with a socket, and this is the first PHEV from Kia you can get in Ireland.
What is this car ?
It’s a small family crossover, sharing its powertrain with the Hyundai Ioniq. A modern design and a unique trim, very well equipped (leather seats, navigation, 7” touch screen, smart cruise control, lane keep assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, etc.)
It has a 105hp engine and 43.5hp electric motor, means a 141hp (combined) powertrain, mated to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.
8.9kwh battery, giving 50km of EV range (says Kia, I wouldn’t expect that much)
How does it charge ?
7kw : 220v AC 32amp with a type 2 socket
It can therefore do a full charge in 2 hours and 15 minutes on a 7kw+ charger, around 6 hours with the granny cable.
How much does it cost ?
€ 36,995, excluding the € 5,000 SEAI grant, witch seems quite a sum, but don’t forget that the car comes fully loaded.
