New on the market : Hyundai Ioniq PHEV

After the plug-less hybrid and the more popular pure electric model launched a year ago, Hyundai is now putting on the Irish market the Plug-in Hybrid variant of its Ioniq.

What is it ?

A family car, with 5 seats, a decent boot and a good interior quality.

Just like the Niro PHEV, it has a 105hp petrol engine, a 68hp electric motor, giving a total output of 141hp.

How does it charge ?

Again it has the same setup as the Niro : 7kw charge speed (220v AC 32amp), with a type 2 socket.

It can therefore do a full charge in 2 hours and 15 minutes on a 7kw+ charger, or around 6 hours with the granny cable.

How much does it cost ?

€ 31,995, which is  € 3,000 more than the full electric Ioniq and thanks to a higher VRT rebate and the SEAI incentive €500 cheaper than the plug-less Ioniq (which obviously becomes a non-sense to buy!). It is also the same price as its cousin the Niro PHEV, and € 5-8.000 cheaper than a Prius PHEV. If Hyundai can supply these cars, it should be a success!
