Irish EV Sales – July 2021

Vovlo XC40 Recharge

With the new registration plate change come a boatload of EVs on our market and once again we have an all time record of EVs registered in a single month : no less than 1902 BEVs and 2291 PHEVs. PHEV sales are now clearly above BEV sales, but will it last ? With the decrease of incentives on PHEVs, it is possible that some purchases were anticipated and that the end of the year will see BEVs registration get back above PHEV ones.

In terms of models we still have the ID.4 from Volkswagen in front, and nothing seem to be able to stop it. The Kia Niro and particularly the Renault Zoé made a strong month, way better than the 2 former Irish favorites Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona. Tesla is facing challenges with the production of new Model S and X ramping up and still not available in Europe anytime soon, while surprisingly not a single Model 3 was imported.

It’s a whopping 35 different BEV models that have been registered so far this year with no less than 3 new vehicles this month : The funky Citroën e-C4, the sophisticated DS 3 Crossback and the more conservative Volvo XC40.
