ESB eCars update – Minimum Account Balance reverts to £5/€5

Written by Admin | Jul 10, 2023 11:00:09 AM

We recently communicated that ESB eCars had updated their Minimum Account Balance Required to start a charge to be £20/€20. This has caused issues with members (and non-members alike) not being able to charge their vehicles on the ESB eCars network due to this minimum balance change. In many cases people did not see the communications, so we had reached out to ESB eCars to highlight the issues seen and to clarify their reasoning for the change. ESB eCars had given us a statement on the reasoning for this change which can be found here: Response from ESB eCars on the change to minimum account balance required to start a charge

On July 7th 2023, ESB eCars have reverted this increase to the minimum balance change and returned to the £5/€5 Minimum account balance. We welcome this return to £5/€5 Minimum balance as ESB eCars have listened to us and other users about the issues caused by the change to a £20/€20 Minimum balance to start a charge.  We would thank ESB eCars for engaging with us and listening to what was happening based on our member feedback. But above all, we are thankful for this swift change to improve the user experience as this is the right decision to keep all individuals who use the ESB eCars network moving without undue hassle or hinderance.

From ESB eCars email to all on their communications :

Dear EV Driver,

Following our previous correspondence regarding a change to the minimum account balance required to start a charge, a number of drivers experienced difficulties charging due to the minimum balance increasing from €/£5 to €/£20. In response to customer feedback, this will revert to €/£5.

This change will come into effect immediately. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

To reflect this, the pricing terms are available at https://esb.ie/what-we-do/ecars/price-plans.

Your feedback is important to us and we’ll continue to listen to customers to implement improvements to how you use the ESB public charging network. If you have further queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at ecars@esb.ie or phone us on 00353 1 258 3799 (Republic of Ireland) or 0044 345 601 8303 (Northern Ireland).
