If you have read our article about 2024 EV Registrations, you will get an overview over the most popular battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Ireland in 2024 and a breakdown of all new BEVs registered here in Ireland compared to 2023. Here I will give you an overview of how far along the road to 100% BEV sales each brand is by creating a table that will highlight the leaders and the laggards. The data comes from SIMI Motorstats. I have totaled the number of BEVs sold by each brand (passenger cars only, and no PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles)) and divided it by the total number of cars sold. This tells us the percentage of cars sold that run purely on electricity. Where several brands have the same percentage, I have ranked the leaders by the total number of cars sold in descending order, and the laggards in ascending order. Five brands are already at 100% BEVs, while nine brands didn’t sell (or offer) a single BEV in all of 2024. The best of the big brands is VW at number 15. I’m sure some of you will be surprised by the ranking of some of these brands. I know I am, and I’m already looking forward to seeing how the table looks for 2025!
